MGW was founded on April 16, 1991 under the name “MGW Gleis- und Weichenbau-GmbH & Co. KG” as a merger of four renowned medium-sized track construction companies.

Originally based in Oranienburg near Berlin, the company relocated its headquarters to Berlin’s Warschauer Strasse in 1995.
